A unique combination of traditional style and modern performance. The rifle carried across the Great Plains by western pioneers and fur trappers was the culmination of percussion firearms development.

Originally designed and built by such famous makers as Hawken, Gemmer and Demick, Great Plains rifles were the best and most reliable designs and finest workmanship available. No other factory assembled rifle or kit offers the authentic style and design of Lyman's Great Plains Rifle. This classic muzzleloader offers such high quality features as a 32" barrel with 1 in 60" twist for patched ball and hunting loads, double set triggers, Hawken style percussion "snail" with clean out screw, separate ramrod entry thimble and nose cap, and reliable coil spring lock with correct lock plate. Available in .50 and .54 caliber flint or percussion.

Lyman GPR Flintlock-1/66" twist; 54 caliber

It is nice as it is, but Lyman recommends to treat the stock with Tru-Oil. I put 4 layers on it and the ramrod and it really brought out the walnut figure. Make sure the wedges are tight as per instructions. The front one got loose after some shooting. This barrel twist is for round balls only. This thing is accurate with any load from 50 2f to 110 2f. I use 4f in the pan. I tested it out to 100 yds. and it gives 1" groups (with open sights, and my eyes are old). The set trigger is great. I use a Speer RB 0.535" with a 0.18" patch and Mink Oil /Eastern ME/or beef tallow lube. I want to try 0.530" RBs next. This rifle is a blast to shoot and only gave one flash in the pan so far. It will take any North American big game. This one was made by Investarms. I understand the Pedersoli is now making a Signature version of it.
